Don't Give 'Em Chicken Bones

Chicken bones are too small for dogs and can cause choking. They also splinter easily. Only give your dog bones that are bigger than their mouth and are solid like cow bones or compressed rawhide (not rolled.) For your kids, I don't recommend you give them dog bones, unless they have been really, really good.

Tip: Try quartering grapes or slicing hot dogs lengthwise to prevent choking in toddlers.

You can to give a dog chicken bones. Just not cooked ones. Cooked bones splinter, raw bones are softer and break differently and can be fully digested. I've been feeding my dog raw for several years and have never had a problem with any chicken or turkey bones.

Great stuff. I was thinking the same thing, having a female rottweiler, and 2 daughters.

The rottie was so much better in so many ways ...

Yeah, raw chicken bones are a great source of calcium and phosphorus for your dog.

Our dog's breeder did suggest holding one end of smaller bones (like chicken wings), so that the dog chews/crunches rather than just trying to inhale the whole wing!

If you are kind enough, grind the soft bones first before giving them to your dogs. It's much like a liver pate.
