Respect Where You Live

Dogs naturally will not pee or poop where they sleep, (where you sleep is another issue.) Generally speaking dogs keep their area clean and pick the same favorite spots to go.

This is a good lesson for your children. We have our "young males" clean up after themselves any time they plan on leaving a room. They also make their beds and keep their rooms in order.

Teach them to take pride in how orderly they keep their house and they will learn to respect your stuff, neighborhood, any other people's property.

Got an idea on how training your dog might be similar to training your kids? Let me know be leaving me a comment. Maybe we will republish it as a blog entry.

We've started having our young one clean up before she goes to bed - it's a good bedtime routine, and she'll learn nifty traits for the future.

We hope.

I totally agree with you. I wrote a short article. Here it is:

Excellent article, Susana.

My kids are starting to really push my buttons and test their limits, openly disobeying.

Being humans, not dogs, I am finding that barking commands even with the look of death is becoming less effective. I have switched tactics enabling my kids to verbalize why they are misbehaving or not listening so that they can avoid what comes next. Giving them a little more time and room is helping them in those situations where they are not really being defiant.
